Should We Keep this Audi??
We own a 2001 A6 4.2 with 62k miles. We love the car but have recently been having troubles with it. First the rear crank was leaking and the cost to repair it and do some other necessary work was $3k. 3 days after getting it back the car would not engage reverse we are now told the transmission needs to be rebuilt ($4k). Luckily we have an extended warranty but the warranty is up in November.
I am curious if other owners have had a lot of issues with their a6 and what sorts of issues can I expect if we keep the car with no warranty. Like I said, the car is beautiful and I really don't want to get rid of it but I cannot afford to keep putting serious $$ into this car.
Your comments are appreciated.

you getting into it deep, i'd say keep......
on my C4 Avant 5 years ago, i pulled the plug at 5K in 5 months and leased a new one.
you've sunk a lot in it, so you probably should hold. used aren't worth much. but, if you're in a loan situation and you start the death circle of here and there payments + car payment, i'd take in some of the give aways going on in the auto industry right now.

Get another extended warranty to 100K. STFA.
I wouldn't keep it without the warranty.
The maintenance is costly enough.
Unscheduled repairs are incredibly costly.
It's a technician's car without the warranty.

schnellmb.. thread hijack...
picked up a 135 conv. in a stick for the wife. What a wonderfully balanced (sport pkg.) and singularly powerful pocket rocket. Now I know why you have two with this motor.

it's a bit addicting. the 535 is the comfortable car, and the 3 is rocket.
the 1 would be a hoot!
almost got one, but decided that in snow land it wouldn't be practical. hope you guys have fun with yours! i haven't driven a 135 yet, but all the reviews with sport package say they rock!

I appreciate the advice you all gave. At this point we own the car outright. I am going to drive it for another 6 months and hope that it does not have another costly repair. If so, I guess I will take it in and possibly trade it for the new A4 as by then the dealer's may be willing to make a deal.
