Since Lamborghini has 6-speed tranny that can handle 500+HP, why didn't Audi use it in RS 6?

I heard Audi didn't offer 6-speed tranny cause parent VAG had no manual gear box to handle the RS 6, power, but wait Lambo does it, so wouldn't that technically be a lie?

Default Maybe Audi knew a lot of these RS6's would be chipped to over 600 lb-ft of torque?

The Lambo puts out less than 500 lb-ft IIRC.

I thought the lambo trans sat in a comeletly different place. It is a rear engine car, right?

Default It is the same mistake Mercedes makes no manuals>>

True enthusiasts want to shift their car. Not have a slushbox do it. Even the SMG from BMW was not as fast as the driver shifting a 6 speed. Recent article in Roundel on this and lap times at Watkins Glen.

Default Until Audi revises their whole drivetrain scheme, I think they are limited..

... in the types of transmissions they can use. Rumor has it a major revision will be coming; and with any luck, the engines will no longer be in front of the front axles.

Default You're forgetting two things

In the Roundel article, at the very end, they admit that both the SMG and 6-speed were smoked by a Mercedes.

And the percentage of people who still want a manual and/or know how to use one, while vocal, is small and shrinking. I would suggest Merc knows its audience better than we do (and it ain't us), esp. in that price range.

Default Except I wouldn't consider a Merc with a slushbox>

I am not their market but they try to compete with BMW with like cars but no stick shifts. They want the BMW crowd like Audi does but don't offer like products. Can you buy an M5 with a slushbox, no. Can you buy an M3 that way, no. True enthusiast again want to be in control of the gear and the clutch.

Default Mercedes has no problem selling lots of hipo cars to "non-enthusiasts".

Even BMW is looking for ways around a manually operated clutch - see SMG. Lots of wear and tear with heavy cars and clutches. Dinan does a lot of 5 series clutch upgrades.

I love sticks too, but having been subjected to many test drives with folks who are clueless about manuals, I can see why the slushbox is a better choice for most folks.

M3? No clutch.
