Sirius Satellite Install on '01 2.7T
I am looking into installing Sirius Satellite Radio in my '01 2.7T sedan. I am looking at different antenna options. Most of the antennas mount to the roof or trunk lid with a magnet. They look kinda bulky. I hear that Sirius is going to be releasing glass mount antennas soon. I was wondering a few things.
Is it possible to use the Audi satellite antenna part that is included in recent models with the satellite option? I would need to get a part number, but I assume that it should be able to interface with any satellite receiver? I should also be able to paint it to match body color. I am not sure that the other aftermarket ones can be painted.
I am thinking about going with an FM modulated tuner so that I do not lose the factory radio controls. I have a CD changer, so I cannot use that port. Is there anyway to still use the aux inputs for changer, and satellite input? If anyone has any information, or pictures of installs, I would love to see them. Thanks in advance.

That's cool, so it did not need to be on the roof? How is the reception trhugh the back window? I assume that is a standard XM roof mount antenna?

That is the standard XM antenna
There are occasional drop-outs of the signal and I had some concern that mounting the antenna inside the cabin degraded the signal. However, I later installed the exact same model antenna on the roof of my wife's minivan, and the exterior mounted antenna has the exact same drop-outs/signal loss as my Audi.
Based on my unscientific comparison, mounting the antenna on the inside and painting it resulted in no noticable signal loss.

Here's where I put my Sirius antenna. I'll ocassionally get a dropped signal.

Farfax 2.7T reminded me about my last car. I put the antenna on the rear deck inside the car as close to the window as possible and I had great reception with it there. I'd try that place first. Then you don't have to worry about someone stealing it either.
