I am looking into replacing front and maybe back components with some mb quarts. I dont know the size of speakers though. Thought I would ask before I end up having to take off door panel and measuring myself

I have heard that the Symphony radios use individually amplified speakers. I think that means that you can't just replace the speakers without adding an amp or replacing the head unit.
I could be worng about this though.

I've recently done some reading there that leads me to believe that you can indeed swap out individual components, it's just that you have to watch out for the impedence of the speakers.

The A6 with Bose gets 4 - 25 watt linear amps. 1 - 100 watt switching amp. 2 inch tweeters in both front and rear doors. 6.5 mid-range speakers in the rear doors. 6.5 wide range speakers in the front doors. 2 - 4.5 1-ohm speakers in a bass box located in the right side trunk well.

I don't have the individual specs for the non-Bose system, but they do not include volume specific enclosures of the Bose. Unless changed recently, your car should have 8 speakers plus a sub-woofer. Total rated power is 140 watts with less than 1% distortion (some much higher rated systems can see as much as 10% distortion).
