Sport Springs for 4.2 - April can you comment pls)
I've been trying to get some sport or Eibach springs for a long while. Chirs Boyton told me that Carlsen in Palo Alto could order the sport springs for my "non-sport" 4.2, but to do it he would need to know "what color the paint marks are on sport springs". Anyone out there with the sport springs on a 4.2 that could look and see. Chris looked under the car on the showroom floor but couldn't see any paint marks.
April -perhaps you know something about this. Seems really strange that Audi can't tell what springs are what from part and/or model numbers.........

Re: that sounds strange to me too!
Yeah, it does sound a bit strange, but that is the only way the Audi parts guy knows for sure, what springs to order. His computer shows the different springs by what paint marks are on them. Go check out your springs, you'll see the paint marks...usaully 2 different colors.

I've been through this already with AoA..........
Audi will not sell you sport springs unless your car was equiped from the factory with them and has been wrecked, thusly in need of replacement springs. Their reasoning is that there are 12 different spring rates for the A6 if you can believe that. It all has to do with equipment levels, varying weights and spring manufacture batches. The color combo on top of the coils tells them two things: 1) which weight category your car is and 2) which batch your OEM springs came from. They keep a supply from each batch so that mismatching of springs rates is kept to a "non-measureable" minimum. I was told this by my dealers parts manager after he cornered the gentleman in charge of AoA's parts program at a national meeting.
Eibach is an OEM supplier and should have "aftermarket" springs by now but you already know the answer to that one don't you!?
