Steering effort

Hi...OK, here is a weird question. Had a '99 A6 we recently traded for a '03 A6. The '99 had a very light, almost chair car like steering effort at low speeds that tightened up as the speed increased. I think the brochure called it "adaptive steering" or some such marketing term (cannot find the '99 brochure at the moment. The '03 has a much heavier steering at low speeds, very heavy, that stays the same at all speeds. It feels just right at interstate speeds.

So, here is the question. Did the '99 have some kind of variable speed steering and does the '03? Is something wrong with the '03? If I did not have the '99 first, I would probably not have noticed the '03 as much. Thoughts?

If you bought the car used, the steering module may have been removed. Check the...

how-to's, for instructions to locate it under the driver knee panel.

Probably had the relay removed. At this point, I'd say keep it out a while.

If you can't get used to it, then I'm sure someone here can donate one to you.

OK, Thanks...Where is the module located? I looked under "Resources-tires/brakes/suspension" but did not see anything. Why would the module be out? Are they expensive?

605 relay

OK, found the article in the "Resources" section. I will check the car tonight. Anyone got a 605 relay they want to sell?

...which is supposedly "better" slightly less boost than the 605.

2003 Servotronic

OK, so had another long trip with the A6 and drove my Dad's A5. Steering is light like our 99 was. Started to think I wanted the relay back in.

After we got home I pulled the lower panel off and thought I knew where the 605 was and it was missing. Checked the normal spot (above 603 module). There was nothing there? Not even a empty plug!?

I checked the 2003 and 2004 model guide under the "resources" section and they don't say anything about "servotronic". 2002 and earlier models do, but not 2003-2004. Then on the 2005 it is back.

Anyone know anything about this oddity? Is it not part of my 2003?
