Steering wheel controls & speakers don't work

could be a bad harness for the ipod interface. Fyi....
in your 2000 A6, your steering wheel interfaces within the same plug as your CD changer (i.e. that 20 pin unit called "Connector I"). Could be broken pins etc in that ipod harness; not sure.
I would remove the ipod interface from the equation and see if your steering wheel etc work as they did before.
Either way, just make sure you plug in the existing and new Connector I all the way in so it snaps into place.
