Default Steering Wheel Radio Controls

Is there any way to reprogram the useless 2 buttons dedicated to the phone controls to instead to act as "program scan" buttons as shown in the manual on some other A6 steering wheel?
It seems to make sense that this can be changed, although it could take some re-wiring.
Has anyone done this?
Maybe most people in Europe use cell phones, but it seems very few in the U.S. opt for this and the radio control emphasis should be the default set-up.

Many have asked, so far no one has succeeded (as far as I know)

Default Rumor has it...

that Audi is helping produce an adapter for Motorola StarTac and Nokica 51XX and 61XX series phone which will enable the functionality of the wheel controls to work with the phones. AMS in SoCal already has a kit that does this, but it's their own.

Something to keep in mind before reprogramming/rewiring, just in case you have one of the phones, and would like to integrate the phone with the control someday.

You would think that the US market dictates other changes, that the buttons would too...

Default haha.. Tiptronic Up/Down would be nice~!

yeah right... audi puts at least an useful preset tune up/down on the 2.8 and put the useless telephone bttns on my 4.2.

I think they should replace the entire steering wheel with an Audi Sport 3 spoke s/w with the tiptronic switches for me...

The parts manager at my dealer in Atlanta said that Audi has been working on this adapter for some time now. Based on what he said, I would think that they are still a few months away from a product that works. I guess they are having some problems with it. Does AMS sell the kit that they have and if so, how much does it cost?

Default It has nothing to do with 2.8 vs. 2.7T vs. 4.2

It was a mid-year change during 2000 that affected all A6s. Cars built after sometime in February or March of 2000 came through with bottom L+R buttons that control only the factory phone.

I second the motion. Tiptronic up-down button would be cool. Have heard there's a button under the accelerator that forces the tip to downshift. Rewire that to the steering wheel? Downshift with a thumb flick.

Default You're kidding!

Are they the ones with "R/T" on the left and the phone receiver icon on the right?
