Will the computer system need to be reset if the battery cable is disconnected?

It shouldn't. A hard reset will sometimes clear certain fault codes. Some things will need resetting. Depending on the model some features need to be cycled to reset. Example: My "one touch up/ down" windows had to be manually cycled one full time after a battery disconnect to return to the one touch mode.
