is there any way to program a key-fob with only one key? (lots of questions inside)
i have a turbo timer and only one key that need to be programed... i know the two sound completely irrevant but {1} ive been told that you need to have one key in the ignition while you program the other, is this true? if so, heres where the turbo timer comes in... do you physically need the ignition switch turned on or {2} would it work if i left the car running (via turbo timer) and programed the other? i know, sounds crazy. the only reason i ask is because IIRC key-fob programing is something you can do yourself to avoid paying the dealer. {3} is this true? if so, {4} what is the procedure? {5} do i need a VAG? sorry for all the questions.
i dont really need/want a second key nor do i want to pay to have it programed at the dealer... id rather just sitck the key in the door than pay $100+ for a new key/programing.. TIA

whats the difference? two reasons actually
1. the turbo timer is also a boost gauge... kill 2 birds with one stone kinda thing
2. its not like a turbo timer is going to be less sufficient than a lower temp thermo switch... if the engine is idling the water pump is still pumping coolant *and oil* through the turbos. if anything that would make it more effective than a thermo switch which only coninues to flow coolant (if i understand what it is... i may not). either way the object is to keep the hot fluids flowing and allow them to cool off gradually, instead of just letting them sit in the turbos and esentially cook the housings. thats not to say that the thermo swith doesnt get the job done, it very well may, but a timer surely wont be any worse.
in my area i have no concerns about leaving the car running for 2 minutes after i get out, for people living in big cities i would not recomend a timer... different strokes for different folks i guess.
