For those who have done the output seals on the rear diff., is the special tool 2062 aka seal driver

a necessity? I am just wondering because I cant find it online anywhere. I tried ebay, zdmak, no luck so far. or if someone knows where I can get it please let me know! TIA.

Why would one need such a tool? Don't mess with the input pinion shaft seal unless you're willing...

to mess with resetting the pinion bearing preload.

First of all...

He is talking about the side seals aka output seals on the rear diff so the preload does not apply. Second, if you are doing the passenger side seal then yes you need the tool available from Samstag. The reason you need the tool for the passenger side is that there is no machined stop in the bore of the diff to let you know how far the seal should be seated. If you push it too far it will fall into the diff (don't ask how I found that out) ;-). The tool will only let you install the seal to the right depth. Plus it will make the install perfectly square.
Good news is the tool is only like $25 and will get the job done properly. Search the forums for my writeup. Good luck!
