timing belt service...haha! another one quoted today!
-Timing belt

-Left bank idler roller
-Tensioner roller with relay lever
-Hydraulic tensioner
-Water pump
-Cam seals (2)
-Crank/Oil pump seal
-Thermostat
-Thermost O-Ring
-Accessory drive belt
the advisor said that the cam seals and crank seals looked good and didn't need to be done, and they are a whole different proceedure and I wouldn't save on labor costs...I about hollered BS at him, but hey, he can try to say whatever...
my question is, how important would you guys think it is to get these done? I'm only at 73k, but want to be pretty well wrapped up until 100k with the next few jobs, should I tell him to do them anyway?(they weren't included on the quote, so I'd have to get that quoted)
also, this one puzzles me: parts for the timing belt service: $297
all the other parts were listed separately, so I know they're not in there...and I know a timing belt should not cost more than $50, anyone have a clue what all other parts they may be throwing in that before I call and ask if the belt is made of titanium?
overall though, the quote was $167 cheaper than I expected from a dealer, but yeah, I'm still kinda wondering exactly how they know those seals are in good shape since the car was only in for an oil change and they didn't have the time to check out my squealing AC blower. last time I did major car waork I couldn't tell you the condition of a seal unless it was visibly leaking or if I took the stuff apart to the point of where I could actually look at the whole seal.
The Omaha dealership told me the cam seals on the 4.2 are usually not necessary as they are on the six cylinders.
I'm glad I did them anyway.
for those interested the quote totalled to $1833, I expected 1900, so it was in line price-wise with expectations from a dealer.
