Default Timing Belt tensioner, Tensioner pulley, Timing Belt Roller

I know it is a stupid question, but I am totally confused.

I understand that during the Timing Belt Service I need to replace timing belt tensioner. But then some articles mention tensioner pulley while others timing belt roller. Alldata does not have any reference to timing belt roller and does have a description of tensioner pulley. Internet parts stores on the other side sell rollers and have no pulleys.

Is it the same part with 2 different names or 2 separate parts. If later, which one needs to be included in Timing Belt service?

Thanks a lot

Default The pully/roller/idler is the same part.

It is opposite the tensioner to make the curve for the drivers side bank.

Here is the roller

Here is the tensioner

I wish I would have been taking the photos when I was doing the work, my buddy didn't get any of the front of the motor straight on to illustrate what it looks like behind the covers and everything. This is the closest I've got...

You can see the roller in there, but it isn't a great picture.

Default It looks as if the water pump is out in that photo.....

do you know if it came out alright or did any of the bolts shear off?

When I rebuilt the heads on my old 12v, 3 of the 4 the water pump bolts sheared off flush with the front of the block which added about half a days extra work for me to get the remains out.

It is worth poiting out that it is good idea to replace the water pump at the same time as doing the timing belt.

It may be worth looking at the front crank oil seal just in case. If that needs doing you have to have the correct tool to lock the crank because the front pulley bolt is torqued to about 250ft/lb's or more.

Default That is correct, the photo is from my water pump change.

The crank seal was still perfect and none of the bolts gave me any trouble, I made sure to put anti-seize on all the bolts that went into aluminum (quite a few) just incase someone has to get in there again.

Default Doing thermostat also together with...

-water pump
-TB
-TB tensioner, tensioner pulley (this is the exact name of the part in alldata)
-Tensioner roller
-serpentine belt

I am not doing tensioner damper (unless it is part of "tb tensioner, tensioner pulley"). Hope this is right. Hope I did not miss anything else.

Thanks a lot everybody.

Default The TB tensioner is....

...the dampner. I would add TB idler and sepentine belt tensioner to your list as well.
