Default timming belt problem

I have a 98 audi a6 with 160000 on it recently i was driving and the car started shaking hard and then cut off on me. Took it to the shop the scanner said replace the cam postion sensors. so i put in new sensors the car started then cut right back off. Then we realize the timming belt was still on but missing teeth. everybodys sayin its a 50/50 chance the engine is still good

not sure as to what your question is? you should get a compression check to ensure you are good. and get to work replacing the timing belt as well as all the accessories you need to: water pump, serpentine, idlers, etc

hate to say it but you killed the engine... you won the 50/50 the first time the car died, sounds like you lost the second time.

compression test is your only hope; good luck sir.

I would suggest a leak down test which you do with a static engine. Compression test requires the engine to be able to crank over several times or run which this one evidently does not do.

Not sure you killed it dead but you probably bent some valves. If that's all you did it's fixable.

He killed it the first time, pretty sure of it. When it skips to the point of shaking, the timing is off so much it will hit the valves.

edit: no engine pull needed to replace heads.

The question is, how many valves are bent. If it's only one side, you may choose to replace the head with another one.

It requires an engine pull. More $$$ than the car is worth.

If both heads have bent valves, you may choose to replace both heads. Or get another engine.

It requires an engine pull. More $$$ than the car is worth.

Or, you may sell the car as is for parts. Don't know if you'd get anything for it, being a '98.

I am afraid these are your only options.
