Default Transmission oddity

2001 a6 sport package 4.2 quattro triptronic about 160,000 miles

When comming to a moderate or abrupt stop the transmission feels like it down ****s the last gear hard at the very last second before i come to a complete stop

However if i bring the car to a slow stop. There is no rough downshift

Also there are no rough upshifts at all when driving

And ideas?

Ever changed your transmission oil? May be a thing to do.

You could have a sticking valve body due to dirty old oil.

Well, regular maintenance doesn't cover changing the transmission oil...AND FILTER!!

At 160K miles it's time. Or maybe past time. 160K miles is an excellent run for a ZF with no transmission fluid/filter changes.

You can't check the oil level easily, there is no dipstick.

IMO, and ZF's, 3X overdue.

Disconnect between ZF and Audi.

Guess who engineered it :-)

Ok. So vagcom says no codes. So nothing there. Fluid was a little low. However it more disgusting colored then a public bathroom
Getting the filter kit and going to replace tranny fluid and filter soon to see what happens

So you guys are basically thinking fluid an filter over due and possibly a mount.

Will have to check tranny and motor mounts next day off...

A lot of people will disagree with me, but I have experienced it too many times to dismiss. Changing the fluid in a neglected transmission very often results in failure. That old fluid is basically holding the clutches together. Any reduction in the coefficient of friction (removing all the fiber and metal in solution) results in slippage, and heat buildup.

I can't count how many times I've advised against a service on a long overdue trans only to be ignored, and later blamed for causing the destruction. Good luck.
