We have an 01 2.8 A6 that we bought last March. We were told all it needed was a water pump. Fast forward several months and several hundred dollars later, there is a lot more wrong with it than that. We bought a different head after discovering several bent valves, but the new head doesn't have very good compression, and the head on the drivers side isn't so great either.

We found an engine at our local salvage yard for a good price, but it's a through 25000 VIN engine and our car is a from 25001 VIN. Will this engine work at all? Or is it a total no-go? I've been waiting for 8 months to drive this car and am starting to get impatient.
