Default Upgrade to A6 4.2 17"x8" factory rims?

I own a 2.8Q, but I love these 4.2 rims, I think they look better than any aftermarket product.
Has anyone ever installed these (with 235/45-17's) on a A6 2.8Q? Would they scratch inside the wheel arches?
Plus: Would anyone who has these wheels like to sell them? (maybe you'd like to get some 18"s :-)
All answers appreciated!

Default Factory tires on those rims are usually 255/40's (more)

Would the 255's not fit in the wheel well?

The sidewall height is barely different with 235/45's. Do narrower tires ride better, or is it the tire brand that makes it ride better in your opinion?

P.S. I'm pretty okay with the Conti's so far.

Default I think its the brand(more)

the conti's were loud and these tires run much quiter. I had a friend that had the new sport package bbs style wheel on his 2.7t and they put 225/45's on the wheels and it looked odd. the tire just seemed a bit too narrow.

I like the 235/45 because the shoulder is perpendicular to the rim. Just makes the wheel look that much more substantial. I hope this anwers your question.

Default What about using 50 series on 17"?

I realize that the basic "plus 1" gets you to 17" wheels and 45 series tires, but I was wondering about clearance issues for 17" wheels and 50 series tires.

- I know diameter changes and therefore speedometer error will be a factor. -

I would favor the 50s only because they give you a little more "meat" to protect the wheels from curb/pothole damage, and 50 series tires can be significantly less expensive. I did this on an older Audi and it was very successful (15" 55 series instead of 50 series). It also fills out the wheel wells.

I've heard warnings about ABS problems but that strikes me as BS. So what if the ABS thinks you're going 2% slower than you are?

Default Questions

1. These are the "forged" alloys that list for $951 each. Correct? Did you buy new or used from somebody like AAARims.com.
2. Are you already lowered (PSK) or plan to lower, eg, with Eibachs. Know of any probs doing so, can't be done etc I know other 17x8 wheels work but they have already taken the 2.7T calipers into consideration.
3. Weight?

PS: Looks spectacular!

Like Big D, and a number of others on the forum, I also put the 4.2 forged alloys on my 2.7T. The tires are 255x40x17 and fit fine. Seems like I've read somewhere on the forum that the brakes are a different size on the 2.8 so I'm not sure they'll fit.

Default These are forged I think, I got them from a guy who sold them...

because he couldnt get them to fit his tt. but they are great and the car is not lowered. planning on putting some konis on them. gave more room than the stcok rims for the calipers.
