Default I have never heard of an inner CV joint boot failing but I cannot see any reason they cannot be....

replaced. They are a fairly normal joint on splines with a circlip on the shaft.

Whether you can buy the boot is another matter, I would see if the main dealer can get them.

I should rephrase - Audi says you can't buy just the inner boot - you need to buy the whole joint.

Default I have bought them no problem from Blau and ecs

for a 2000 4.2 auto, a 96 C4 auto and an 85 c3 stick (that one years ago back to blau)

Inners usually only fail at very high mileage (way over 100K), but once I get in there to do a messy CV joint I usually change it anyway.

Default If you're doing anything, you might as well replace both boots on the axle.

Try Blauparts, ECS, etc.
