when we picked up our new A6 2.4 (Australia, santorini blue), we were loving it. THen we had it smashed up when it was parked by a stolen car on a "destruction derby" through the street it was parked in.. while in repairs the we told that the the spare wheel was a 17inch and not a 15inch like the other 4 wheels.. anway, do you think that is a audi mistake with the wrong wheel or the dealer mistake..?

did you order your A6 yourself our have you seen it allready standing at your dealer.
In firste case I think itīs Audiīs mistake, but in second case your dealer might have changed the stock wheels against some 15" which he wanted to get rid off (17" should be easier to sell).
But consider this before blaming your dealer:
here in Germany only the 4.2 and S6 have stock 17" wheels, all other even canīt be ordered with 17", 16" in different designs is the only choise.
