Default Well I get to replace the same control arm for the third time

This is so frustrating with this car. The original failed at 65k, the replacement failed at 95k. So I guess they are getting worse with time. I am so sick of putting front suspension components on this car. It has had three sets of tie rod ends and now 6 control arms. I bought Moog chasis parts this time instead of Lemfoerder. I don't know if they will be better but if OE failed that much how much worse could they be.

Default My wife's A6 has 116k and is still on all original front suspension....

in fact, virtually nothing has ever needed doing to it. It does have a very slight oil leak from the cam timng adjuster seals but otherwise is all good.

I know that does not help you, but it does show not all cars are as bad.

I cannot think of any other contributory factors to ball joint failing. If you have larger tyres and turn the steering a lot while stationary then that would make a big difference to their wear rate.

Default The problem is disimilar metals the ball joints are

steel and the control arms are aluminum. Something has to give. I asked the dealer and they just shrugged and said yeah that is pretty common. They make a mint on Audi front suspension parts. They quoted me $500 to replace front tie rods. I almost choked on my coffee on that one. The new tie rod ends out are only $109 at ECS tuning and take maybe a 1/2 hour to put on. Same with upper control arms very easy to install. Which is good considering they wear out so quickly.

The OE is TRW. Moog makes them? Doubt it. They are most likely either TRW or some knock off.

All of the ones I have seen come off of cars were stamped TRW.

Default Upper arms easy provided retaining bolt isnt seized.

Built a special tool (press) to deal with the seized bolts. No more wasted hours. Praise Jesus!
