What would cause this? Driver's door 'puddle' light (red light on door edge) and driver's footwell
lights don't turn on at all. Not the bulbs, there's no voltage to the sockets. Yet the driver's door does cause the interior dome light to turn on and off, alarm and locks work properly, etc. All other puddle lights and footwell lights work correctly, just not these two for the driver's side. No VAG fault codes either.
A little help? Thanks!

There actually are drains in the floor. Sort of.
Under the drivers feet and between the legs of the rear passenger there are bungs in the floor. If you pull them you will be looking inside the unibody. On the other side of the unibody there are another set of bungs. But these have built in one way drains. Makes you wonder why one way drains are in the floor. I was most familiar with the outer bung in the back. I always kept that one clean with a piece of weed wacker string. That piece of weed wacker string is also good for making sure the sunroof gutters are clean.
Im not sure if there are bungs in the bottom of the electric chase next to the doors. That is the low spot and water will obviously pool there.
I did not have the plugged plenum issue that you had but water still somehow managed to get into the unibody chamber and rise up. Along with the water cane fine organic debris that clogged the drain bungs. Keeping that back drain clean alleviated the flooding.
My u-boat is gone and I’m very happy about that.

It is strange, I have a similar problem with footwell light only on the driver side rear not working. I did notice that all the other footwell lights are working their "ambiance" magic. The bulb checks out okay, so I'm going to "dive" into the wiring to see if it was "cut" somewhere. I also notice that the passenger courtesy light only works when the passenger door lock is unlocked AND then opened on the passenger side AND the headlights AND ignition is running. This "logical" sequence wiring is a bit over engineered I think...! What we need is a decent schematic and a little reverse engineering think...ya think! LOL
