What's a good replacement brake pad?

Your options...
Are now more limited than they were a few months ago, as it seems Mintex pads for your car are no longer being sold by AWE, the only source I knew of for them.
If they are available for your car... all of the following are GOOD pads:
- Mintex - Reduced dust, better modulation, longer life.
- PBR - Reduced dust, better modulation, longer life.
- Ferodo - Dustless, better stopping power, better modulation, longer life.
- Porterfield - Much better stopping power... don't know other details.
- EBC Green - Reduced dust, better modulation, longer life.
- Rofren - Better stopping power, better modulation, LONG life.
I know that EBC and Rofren are available for the HP-2 calipers... the Mintex fitment was wrong or something, but I'm sure they're working on a new design. Might contact AWE and see when they expect them. I think Porterfield also has a pad for your car now. For the others, call GPR @ 800 321 5432 and ask about availibility of pads for your car. They usually have a few different brands.

Thanks for that very informative post!
I appreciate you taking the time to summarize what's out there and even give me a source for the parts. I did some searching (on AudiWorld) using the brand names you provided and it looks like the Rofrens are held in high regard. I'll give GPR a call Monday. Thanks again.

They DO dust, though...
The story with my Rofrens is I installed them in the winter, and for the first 6 months/11,000 miles, they were completely dustless. I mean, not any dust at all... didn't need to do more than rinse the wheels off. Then once warm weather hit, so did dust. And more of it. They dust about as much as stock pads now, but the dust is easier to wash off (you can get it off with a pressure washer). I do have slotted rotors, which might contribute some to biting into the pads, but the pads are so close to "full pad" that I doubt that's much of a factor. I'd say they're worn not more than about 1/5 pad after 19,000 miles. When it comes down to it, I would probably go with Ferodo pads knowing what I know now (have a set of Ferodos (for the 2.8) in the box). Running Ferodo on the rear... no dust, and no pad or rotor wear (minimal... it's on the rear) after the same 19,000 miles.

Re: They DO dust, though...
I installed Rofrens on my wife's BMW 99 328i and they get just as much dust as the factory pads. Unfortunately, I also bought a set for my A6 and now am not too excited about puutting them on. So I may sell them.
