Whining noise propotional to rpms
Searched the archives, couldn't find the answer to this one:
I hear a faint, but noticeable whining noise that is propotional to the engine speed, more noticeable at lower rpms whether I'm idle or in gear. Is not affected by steering (some have posted that the noise is reduced when steering). I also turned off the AC to see if it is related to that, no change. Oil change done a few thousand miles ago, and there is plenty of oil in there. Any ideas? 2000 4.2 w/ 63,350 miles.

Re: Whining noise propotional to rpms
I found a similar noise when the A/C unit is on
Try the different modes Recirc and Econo. I think the motor is somehow based on the RPMs of tht motor.
