whistling noise at 56-57 mph
Hi,
If I hit the pedal lightly and bring my car up to 56 mph, the car starts to make a whistling noise. It sounds like it is coming from the back, somewhere near the gas tank. If I accelerate, the noise remains at 57 mph, but disappears once I hit 58 mph. This noise only occurs when I step on the gas. If I decelerate from 60 to 55 by taking my foot off the pedal, no noise.
Weird, huh. Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm bringing in my car for routine maint. next week and I'm going to tell them about this, but if someone else has seen it before, maybe I could tell them so they can diagnose it quicker.
Thanks!
Mike

I think I'm experiencing the same thing...allow me to elaborate...
I've noticed that at approximately the same speeds, if I decelerate slightly by decreasing the amount of throttle (ever so slightly), I hear a high-pitched sound. It seems to me that it's coming from the transmission and is actually under the car. Maybe this is different, I'm not sure. On mine, it's very quiet and is not really audible if, for example, the stereo is on at a moderate level.
Sound similar? I'll try what you've described, why don't you do the same? I'd be very interested to see if they're related.<p>Dan H

Re: whistling noise at 56-57 mph
I lived with this for the entire time I had my 1995 A6. Always did it at 61mph. Good Luck. I don't have the issue anymore as I now drive an A6 4.2 Year 2000.

Not me
Hi
I tried your thing and I dont get the noise. I guess from this experiment, it seems that the noises aren't related. I'll see if the service mechanics can fix the problem next week.
