Everyone says 16" rims with 215 or 225's. i have a co-worker who whould like some and wondered about prices. Just kidding about buying from Gary, Seriously, I would not buy anything from Gary.

I run 235 on 16 inches wheels in winter, I would'nt go with narrower tire on an A6, to big car.

Narrower is better in the snow, I would use A6 factory size tire--205/55-16

A6 factory size tire, this is exactly what I use and they are 235 wide.

235 is OEM for 4.2, but 205 came on 2.8, so it would probably be safe to run 205's for winter tires.

Actually, my local Discount Tire store operates under the company's other name, "America's Tire Co.". I shopped them all (Ronal, Tire Rack, other locals); figured since I was getting my wheels from Ronal they'd give me the best package price, but not so. I got 235/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S through America's Tire for $271 each, including mounting, balancing, stems, LIFETIME re-balancing and rotation at no charge. Tire Rack wanted $232 ea. for just the tires. By the time I would have actually gotten them put onto the wheels, balanced, and on the car I'd have been at America's price but without any of the lifetime perks.

Others here have written rave reviews about the level of service at Discount/America's, F.W.I.W.

of course, if you need 'em right away, you might choose Discount Tire or Tire Rack...

There is plenty of sidewall with 17s to do fine in snow and stuff...no reason to go too narrow either...unless you like that.

I have 255s on 17s for snow...and they are nice and soft and compliant...work well in chunky icy snow...etc. etc. etc.

I've gotten two 255-40ZR-17 tires replaced under the warranty. Well worth the $24 or so per tire I paid...and Discount Tire will guarantee even tires you didn't buy from THEM! if you pay for the guarantee. Is this a great company or what?
