Default Widest tire/rim combination for an A6 4.2?

All, bouncing over here from the A8 forum, picked up a 2000 A6 4.2 today.

What is the widest tire/rim combination that has been "successful" for fitting under the A6 4.2 flared fenders? I'm thinking of going with SSR GT1's with taller and wider tires.

Default I used 265/40/17's on 8.5" Ronal R28's...

the tires (S0-3 PP's) cleared the upper suspension components by only a couple centimeters. The offset on those rims is 35mm. FYI.

I was VERY happy with this setup.
email me if you want to see pix of the car with these wheels/tires.

Champion Audi stuffs 275 x 18's under the fenders of their race prepared RS6 but I don't know what offset they use on the wheels.

Default I can't really help you out on that since I don't own a 4.2 V-8 model.

But I must say congratulations on owning one of the finest F-Body cars around. The '98-'02 F-Body is great, although I personally prefer the looks of the '93-'97. The Trans Am is the best looking of all F-Body cars as well. I had a '97 Trans Am WS-6 prior to owning my current C-5 Corvette. It was black/black, just like my current C-5 Corvette. I sold my '97 WS-6 to a good friend who still takes care of it now. By the way, is your LS1 stock? I had the LT-1 monster but I upgraded it with various modifiations including LT-4 parts and such. It was pumping a healthy 450HP naturally aspirated.

Either way, it's good to know there's another F-Body enthusiasts here!

Default 265s? That is wide! I never thought you can go wider than 255s!

I guess it must be different on the 2.7T and 4.2 models!

Absolutely it's different! The 2.7T doesn't have the flared fenders like the 4.2.

Default Thanks, mine is basically stock ...

A buddy of mine is doing a rebuild on an LT-1 Z28 (merim123 on the S4 board). They are definitely fun to drive, can't beat the pricing entry point.

I've owned every generation of F-bodies save the first generation, it is a shame they killed the whole thing at what I consider to be the best iteration.
