What's this improvement all about anyway? I've seen mentioned several times over the past few days, but no detail of what's been changed.

Not sure. I'll let you know tomorrow.
I just ordered some from clairparts.com and they've come in. My service guy called and doesn't think the new style blades will fit in the older arms. But he's not sure. I'm going over there now to see for myself. I was hoping someone here had done the modification, and could tell me definitively. Now the both of us will be standing around the car scratching our heads.

trust me....the new style is not worth the trouble to retrofit. They suck. I have 2 02' A6's. Each have has wiper blades replaced 3 times in 9 months. I am looking for an oem replacement

Both the Parts guy and the Service guy at Clair insisted that the new wipers wouldn't mount on the old arms. They were certain. So I just returned them.
As an aside, both of them also said the new and improved version was worse than the old version.
Never got a chance to hold the wiper next to the arm and look to see if it might fit.
