With VCDS check throttle body adaptation status. You need to see "ADP OK". My friend had problem with same symptoms, that we fixed by running Throttle body adaptation, as we scanned "ADP ERROR" message first. Please check and report, this fix does not cost anything.

If your issue is with older version of windows, you should be able to obtain a copy of Windows XP. Just Google it. If you are running Windows 7, it is possible to run the software in "XP mode".

Hi.
Just bought a US-spec 1999 A6 with the 2.8l AHA engine.
Removed the aftermarket alarm system. Disconnected the battery and the ECU in the process.
Put it back together and had the same problem. in neutral Revs start jumping at 1500 rpm and the car would not go over 40 km/h.
Anyone found the cure yet?

Fixed the issue
Might have posted this on a diff thread to but the problem is deff ur throttle body needs to be realigned the are issues that can cause ur vag com not to work as well there are four or five sensors and modulars that can interfere with vag com not being able to talk w car
radio
Airbag sensors this one sux to get to
Instrument cluster
Abs
Tcm
And I think ur alarm modular can be an issues to
Unplug all or one at a time and keep trying the tests
