2005 A6 floor mats
This has been a terrible winter and it shows by the condition of the beige floor mats in our 2005 A6 3.2. Even after shampooing they don't look very good. As I was shampooing them I realized that these OEM mats are not very substantial, i.e., rather thin without much of a nap.
On the Audi Web site I found carpet-type mats for $269.48 for a set of four mats for 2000-2004 A6 4.2 models. They call them Original Replacement Mats. That seems expensive, especially if they are as thin as the mats that came with our car.
My questions are:
1. Are these mats better that what I have now?
2. Are they available for 2005 A6 3.2 models?
3. Is there a better source for mats with donut style retention rings?
Thanks
Tom

The mats have gotten progressively crappier
The mats in my 98 A4 were considerably more substantial than those in my new A6. I'd go for a set of the all-weather floor mats if I were you.

Rubber mats
I read a message posted just a few days ago that a new owner just got the rubber mats that he was promised when he bought his car. I was also promised rubber mats. Perhaps they also just came in and I'll get a set from my dealer as well.

There is a company called G.G Bailey (ggbailey.com) that claims they make Audi replacement mats.
They say that their their mats have the grommets.
I'm not sure if they are the same quality mats as original OEM or (hopefully) better.

Re: Rubber mats
They are starting to come in. I put mine on backorder when I ordered my car (December), and they arrived 2 days after I picked up my car (March). My only gripe is that they only come in black, whereas previous years' had multiple colors. The black looks nice on my wife's black A4, but not so good in my platinum A6.

Thanks for the info. Their online description says that they are the same as OEM. I may call them and ask for more details or ask for a color swatch, which should allow me to judge.

Re: 2005 A6 floor mats
The Audi available rubber mats (full set of four) with grommets for my 2004 C5 only cost $100. That's what I have and use them all year round. Gave the originals away. If they get real dirty just hose them off and they look good.
Try the dealer. They must be available for the 2005s.

Re: These would look good in your A6
Not what I had in mind.
I looked at my mats again and realize that it is made of the same carpeting material used on the floor of the car. It may be adequate for that use but it seems thin for the mats, which get much more wear. I wonder if the ones that Audi sells in their parts department for well over $200 for a set of four are thicker and more plush. If yes, I wonder if the OEM ones that GG Bailey sells for $95 are like the ones sold in the Audi parts department.

I just ordered their swatch kit...
for $4.00 shipping it's worth it to see what they are made out of and to get a good color match. I was thinking about ordering a black set, with binding and healpad. I took my rubber mats out a week ago and the OEM mats are already starting to show a little wear.
