2005 Air Conditioning Problem
Hello.
I bought a 2005 3.2 A6 this winter and just recently have I found that there is a problem with the air conditioner. At first, the ECON button would not turn off and it was not blowing cold air. I brought it to an Audi dealership under warranty to see if I could get it fixed before the warrenty ran out. Their diagnosis was that it was simply out of refridgerant. The air conditioner worked for a week before it reverted to its previous form of blowing warm air from all except one vent (driver's left side), only this time the ECON button was able to be turned off. I brought it back to the dealership and they "set the setting back to original ones so cold air would blow out of all vents." Rather, they simply made it so no vents blew cold air.
I brought the car to another repair shop the other week and they ran a dye test to find leaks. They were unable to find leaks, but said that they needed to recharge the system, for it was only half charged. Sure enough, the air conditioner worked for about a week, and now it's not.
I'm just wondering if there could be any other reason for this problem other than a leak in which supposedly doesn't exist. I'd also like to note that this car was in an accident, but the only part related to the air conditioning that was replaced was the condenser, which is supposedly functioning properly.
Thanks.

well you are definitely losing refrigerant, which means there has to be a leak somewhere. a pressure test should be able to tell you if there is a leak. They can actually hook up a vacuum pump to the lines. if the pressure holds steady then no leak in the lines. if not, then leak for sure. of course I have seen compressor's leak refrigerant and the dye test never showed it. Try another Audi Dealer or find an A/C specialist

Many thanks for your input.
Turns out that there's been a lack of communication between the two places that's working on this problem.
The Audi dealership did find a leak I guess. I found their description of the problem vague (maybe due to my lack of sufficient car knowledge); they showed me the leak, which is on the right side inside the grille while facing the car, and mentioned something about a pressure switch. They had sent me to the other repair shop to see if I could get this problem covered under insurance because it may be related to the accident (which damaged the front end of the car).
Any information on what this may be?
Again, many thanks.
