If it has to been at the dealer, your looking at $800+.
Each Qtr of transmission fluid at the dealer runs about $46+ and your looking at 16 bottles.

With the cable check the Transmission module and under that is software version. If it's 0020 then you'll need to update the software to 0040(only come be done at the dealer). If it's 0040 then buy the ZF fluid on your own and change it out. You'll only need 10 bottle. There's a DYI on how too.
I post a link where to find the the ZF fluid at $18 a qtr and a case(12) for $218. Search for transmission problem and the link should do there.
By the way the fluid blue discontinued and replaced by the green fluid. But it doesn't look green, more green honey color.

Thanks for the great info. My cable is due here in a few days and I have the VCDS 11.11 software loaded and ready to go. I've been reading the VCDS manual and I'll paste and copy my report and maybe someone can decipher it for me, I'm sure I'll have no idea what I'm looking at!

Damn I guess my original posting caught like wildfire that now you'll have to call to order from CTSC. But most likely is do to a numb-nut order a filter kit that doesn't fit Audi but does for BMW.
oh well as longest everyone save money that's what manners.

Amazon VCDS cable didn't work. Windows 8 wouldn't run the VCDS 11.11 provided on the CD and VCDS 11.11 download from Ross Tech would run, but wouldn't recognize interface cable. Looks like I'm in the market for a genuine Ross Tech HEX CAN USB cable!

That the risk you take buying knock off cables.

I haven't changed the trans fluid, not sure if it is a good move or not from what I've read on here. For every person that says change it if it hasn't been done in 130K miles, there is a person that says leave it alone and changing it will only cause it to "slip" more. Any more insight or opinions on this would be helpful. The knock off so called "hex-can 11.11" cables are not worth the waste, at least for this car.

My car had 127k miles on it when we bought it. Started having a 'juddering' problem with the transmission at about 130 k miles, which got progressively worse.

After trying -very- unsuccessfully to get any sort of history on the car from the local Audi dealer, I opted to do a transmission fluid change myself, with the help of a genuine VCDS cable (an excellent investment). Since I was already having a problem with the transmission, I figured it couldn't hurt.

I also used Ford Mercon SP fluid, based on the postings here by member 'turkeybaster', who did some analysis of the fluids, plus my revisions 1 transmission controller code.

Icky fluid came out, and 5 quarts of Mercon SP in. Within 10 minutes of driving, the transmission problems disappeared. Car now has 175k miles on it, still with zero transmission problems. (I'm dealing with a timing chain tensioner failure now...)

My opinion is that if you are already having a problem with the transmission, then it certainly is worth doing a fluid change to see if it resolves the problem. Whether you go with genuine Audi fluid vs something else, well, that's a whole other topic ;-)
