Default 2008 A6 4.2 shifting issue, slamming into gears

I have a 2008 A6 4.2 sline, 120k and started noticing especially when the engine is cold that the trans slams a little changing up, and sometimes down. Maybe its less noticeable when the engine is warm. I also see a 4oz fluid leak on the ground at the end of each day, all the way up front by the drivers side front headlight location.
Could it be a transmission cooling line runs up front and is leaking? and its slipping cos Im loosing trans fluid? Is there even a way for the owner to top up the trans fluid, or check the level,or no?
Thanks for any advice

@Paul Nye going to ask some basic questions first:
  1. when, if ever, was the transmission fluid and filter changed on your car? If the answer is IDK, then I'd start with a ZF fluid change
  2. With any leak, you need to determine where it's coming from...then get to fixing it
  3. You can't simply "check the level of the tranny fluid" and here's a GREAT DIY on how to service it: So you want to change your trans fluid??? - AudiWorld Forums

There are four types of fluid leaks that could occur near the drivers side front headlight: Power steering, transmission, head light washer fluid (if you have that option), and engine coolant. It would help to identify which fluid is leaking and go from there.

The easiest way is to put some cardboard under the car, then the next day
Pull the cardboard out and look at the location and fluid type
