The Convenience electrics system control is broken down into three basic modules:

– the control unit for access and start authorization J518,
– the antenna read-in unit for keyless access authorization J723 and
– the switch for access and start authorization E415.

All three components communicate with each other over a local single-wire bus. The control unit for access and start authorization is the master of the system and a participant on Convenience. The same control unit is installed for all system versions.

The antenna read-in unit for keyless access authorization is only installed with the Advanced Key option. It serves as the interface between the antennae, sensors and the control unit for access and start authorization.

The switch for access and start authorization is installed in various versions, depending on the transmission, radio frequency of the central locking system and the Advanced Key option. An evaluation electronic device is also integrated into the switch.

The switch for access and start authorization E415 reads in the key code in electronic form only. The hinged bit coding is not evaluated signal. The ignition switch is not part of the lock set for this reason.

It appears to be that way, however I can't say 100%, since I've never personally needed to do such a replacement. Do let us know what you run across when/if you go forth with this.

Hi raj99, I did direct replacement without any coding process. It solves the poor remote range problem as well as keyless malfunction. Thx a lot

hi did you replace with a matching key or just replace the unit it’s self. I have the same issue, ignition fault displayed, remotes don’t work and the radio doesn’t switch of via the key.
I am thinking of buying on of Ebay but not sure weather to get one with the key ?

The OP seemed to indicate he just replaced the faulty unit directly and did not require key mapping.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will order a 2nd hand one from eBay without the key and try it. Fingers crossed everything works.

Thanks Andy
