Default ABS questions

I have a 2005 A6 3.2 with about 64K miles on it. I recently drove over high snow in an alley which scraped the undercarriage of the car, and a few seconds later the ABS light and the spin-out light came on, along with the "parking brake malfunction" light and warning sound. Dealer says ABS is going south, specifically G201 sensor, and must be repaired to the tune of about $2800. Dealer also says impact could not have caused the problem.

Could impact have caused the problem? Impact was nowhere near the ABS, maybe an electrical problem? Seems like too much of a coincidence.

Also, does anyone know the typical lifespan for an ABS module?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Get it scanned by somebody who has VAG-COM. It is most likely the speed sensor on the wheel that's broken and not the G201 in the engine bay. Nowhere near $2800.

The speed sensor works with ABS and the anti skid system so that's why you have the christmas tree on your dash.

Here's you tube video to give you a sense what i am talking about.

Most probably just snow in the sensors ..in the wheels...? Tried drying up the car someplace warm after?

If it really is the Brake Pressure Sensor which I believe is the G201 sensor (which is also bad on mine) just get the ABS module rebuilt. An Indy quoted me $570 total which I think is a million times better than the 2k the dealer quoted me for a brand new one.

Dillon, similar thing happened to my 2005 A6 a couple of weeks ago. I took the car in for rear brake repair at the dealer, and a few days later the ABS lights and beeps started intermittently similar to yours. I took it to the dealer to do a diagnosis and they said one of the fault code shows one of the ABS cylinders is malfunctioning and $2,800 plus tax to change the entire thing. Not related to changing the brakes apparently! there are many posts here from people who had it repaired via places posting on eBay.

Getting the ABS unit out to send for repair is somewhat difficult and requires bleeding the breaks eventually. Also while it is being repaired you cannot drive the car so if you are like me you may have to rent a car to go to work also. But if it works it sounds like under a $1000 total.

This is very irritating of European cars! I had an Acura MDX with 140K on it and none of these types of things ever happened. I bet your heater is messed up too with blowing hot air after 20 minutes. If not, it will soon but it has a very easy fix thanks to posts here.
