Autocross tire question
Ok I am currently running/ruining a set of continental dws 245/40/18 they are nearly shot. I autocross my car, yep abuse to the enth degree. the class I am in is G-Stock so I'm required to use stock wheel widths. Here's my question... Is there room in the fenders using stock offset wheels for a 265/35/18 tire? I am aware they are ment for a 9-10" wheel I am stuck running an 8" so I'll be shoe horning the widest that will clear the fenders and force them on a too small wheel. Btw I am currently leading my class.

Boat? Funny...not
I was looking at a wider foot print tire for the larger grip circle it would provide. Since i have just one set of wheels i have to run a street compound tire 300 tread wear. I'm hoping to negate the reduction in grip from running a "street" tire by having more tire.

Very cool. Maybe I should borrow my wife's A6 next time I do a track event. It is a great handling sedan. I'd love to really push it's handling just once. would need more aggressive brake pads though.

Really after all the reviews glowing about Stoptech? I've run hawk on several occasions they are aggressive, eat rotors for breakfast and dust worse than oem Audi pads. I'd go carbotech before I'd run hawk again.

Without specifying which compound of each brand of pads, these discussions have little merit. I run OEM compound in the A6. (Pagid) It meets our needs. In the TT I run OEM compound Ate in front for street and Carbotech XP11 for track days. At rear I run Hawk HP+ all the time. It is a good enough compromise pad for the reduced braking loads at rear. All of the above are dusty, but have appropriate friction coefficients and heat range for the duty. There simply isn't a pad that will do hard track use and still be ok for street in the front. Autocross is different due to the short runs and reduced heat load. FWIW I have tried Hawk Performance Ceramics and was very dissatisfied. Not a high enough friction coefficient. (not enough bite but no dust!)
