bluetooth issues with iphone

so i finally upgraded my iphone 6 to an 8 and for some reason i can't pair it to the bluetooth in the car, both phones have the most recent iOS update and the 6 pairs just fine, so i can't imagine it's an iOS issue as i've read - has anyone else had this issue? maybe it's an MMI issue? i have no idea which version i have, i have not updated it in the three years since i've owned it and it may never have been updated as far as i know.....what does the dealer charge to update the mmi software?

I had a similar problem and what worked for me was to go into the mmi bluetooth menu and delete all paired devices.
