Default Buying A6 2007 3.2 Quattro I need some advices

Hi to everyone here Audi users. Hope you guys ok. I am new here from CT. Considering to buy an Audi A6 2007 3.2 Quattro. Used to own BMW 5 series 1999 (E39) and would consider to buy BMW 5 series 2007 530i too. But Audi has a lot of advantages what i like: Quattro drive, Bose sound, nice shape etc.
Got a couple of questions: Is here anyone who used to own BMW 5 series 2007 then switch to Audi A6 2007 or 2008 and is able to say something about what is the diffrence in driving conditions? I mean how is the really difference for suspension and steering between these cars, If yes please help.

How much mpg does it do (A6 2007 3.2 Quattro) on the highway or city?

Is the Bose audio really worth to have it? Spoke to the dealer already and salesman said there is no big difference between Bose and regular Audi audio, i think he is talking bull...t but I may be wrong and I need your opinion guys.

Need some info in case of reliabilty of these A6-es. Are they really reliable or have troubles and typical bad isssues?

Please tell me what should I take very close look on when I going to buy it?

Thank You in advance.

I think if you drive them back to back that will definitely clear up one of your queries.

Outside of the occasional lemons and incompetent dealers (the latter of which are a big problem-often denied for North American Audi owners on AudiWorld and other Audi forums-elsewhere, hardly), the C6 A6 is one of the most reliable vehicles ever. It is second only to the Asians (excluding the 2007+ Toyota Motors vehicles, the 2005 Acura RL and all other Acuras 2008+) the and now Ford Motors (who has improved tremendously since downsizing) in reliability. You have little or nothing to worry about in this regard, boss22.

I have never driven the BMW, so I can't answer that one.

I am amazed that a sales person would say there is no difference between the Bose and Symphony systems. The Bose is FAR superior to the standard stock system.

As the post above me says, the A6 is fairly reliable. As with all cars that have these technologies, you are bound to have issues. I don't think it is any more or less then what I have had with the Chevy's, Hondas, or Toyota's I have owned.

It does drive Oh So Nice!

2007 530i nice car but certainly not an Audi A6Q...the key which you'll find thruout this forum is , look/search for properly serviced
Audi's by Audi ) they keep records on all service ,recalls etc using your VIN) so you known fairly close how it was taken care of... Audi's demand a higher quality care because they provide more, safety, handling and build quality etc.
Enjoy!

Test drive both, that's the only way to make sure you made the right choice.

And the salesman who told you there's no difference between the bose system and the stock sound system needs to be FIRED, period.

Default Comments about mpg.

Since I am fanatical about mpg records I will comment about my observations.

Since the A6 is quite a large heavy car city mileage is not its strong suit. However, on the highway once that monster is rolling it can get surprisingly decent mileage.

I may not be the "norm" but over the past 22k miles I get exactly the EPA rated MPG when I correct for driving condition city/hwy.

17 mpg city / 20 mpg combined / 25 mpg highway.

I must follow that with it is possible to drop into the low teens with a heavy right foot in 100% city conditions. However I can also achieve nearly 30 mpg with a very light foot on 100% highway cruise.

All of my data is from manual calculation over a full tank. My trip computer is also re-calibrated to more accurately reflect real consumption.

Also I believe the Bose in the A6 is a bit better than some of the older Audi Bose systems. Meaning a 2001 A4 with standard stereo did not sound much different from the Bose variety. However I can tell you the Bose in the C6 A6 sounds better than the Bose did in my 2001 S4.

Hello everyone.
Thank You guys so much for your answers they were very helpful for me. Appreciate that.

Got another question. I am car mechanic (but currently working off my profession) I like to do as much DIY job in my car as possible. I heard that if I want to change break pads in Audis I need some special tool or VAG computer program to let the caliper's pistons move back is that true? If it is tell me is it on both axles I mean front and rear or only at rear axle?

Yeah the guy in the dealer really told me that is no different in sound quality between Bose and regular Audi symphony - I knew he talks bullsh.t.

Yesterday drove BMW 2008 528xi 5 series. Steering is very tight like I would expected, but Audi's engine was much quiet then BM's. When I drove Audi the kickdown was very lazy and I felt tranny is frozen for 1 or 1,5 sec , BM's tranny was much faster respond to kickdown. Or maybe that's why this Audi I drove has had broken tranny..? (I don't think so though...)
I am so confusing now... Cause BM's X drive sucks, Quattro rules I know that.

Which one will be cheaper to maintain? BM 5 series 2007 or 2007 Audi A6?
Thanks for All. Kindest regards.

I also am a big DIYer, so I can atest to some of these issues. For the rear brake pad and/or rotor replacements, you'll definately need VAG–COM from Ross–Tech to retract the electric rear parking brake motor. You don't need anything for the front brakes - they are essentially a standard disc brake setup. The VAG–COM is also necessary to do a lot of other things you'll need to do if you plan to do your own repairs. You should should also invest in getting a Bentley Repair Manual, which will provide you with all of the neccessary details for repairing and maintaining the A6. Can't say if the Bimmer is cheaper to maintain than the A6, but doing your own maintenance and having access to an on–line Audi dealer that sells OEM parts at a discount (www.genuineaudiparts.com) really helps lower the cost to own.

Hi A6Gary. Thanks for help. I was suspecting that I would need to do it only on rear axle, You just confirmed my suspisions.

Can you tell is Vag-com very expensive? I guess it is.

Where You come from? Perhaps CT? Asking cause if I would buy it and have some trouble with it then I could visit You. Cheers dude.
