Vag-Com is a $350 expenditure.

The A6 transmission can sometimes feel lazy but I think in a few hours it learns your driving pattern and adjusts. On the weekends I drive ours and it feels horrible to me for an hour or so. On Monday mornings it feels horrible to my wife until the car gets used to her.

The MPG for our A6 is about 22 on mostly highway, 90 MPH driving (you can't drive slow in that thing).

Overall, it's a wonderful car and come winter, you will be glad you got the Quattro.

Unfortunately, I am on the opposite coast in Washington. I have been using VAG–COM for over ten years to work on my VAG cars. I've also had to upgrade a couple of times to newer adapters for the new platforms, such as the HEX–CAN bus OBD–II system (C6). The software has saved me a bundle in maintenance and repair costs because I can do essentially what the dealer can do.

There must be some hidden damage that is not obvious in the pics because the primary parts that need replacment are the front bumper cover and headlight(s), but the repair cost is listed at $21K+. There could be damage to the right side exhaust and suspension, and maybe the engine block. If you could do a personal inpsection of the vehicle and find out if the engine still runs, then you might be able to determine if it is worth the investment (time & $s) to fix a 2007 A6 vs. buying a used 2007 A6 with the same mileage that is not damaged. Still, if the listed repair cost of $21K+ is really reflects the actual repair cost, then why was it totaled? The car should be worth more than that w/o the damage.

I'm a little late to this thread, but I'll give you my two cents. I am currently driving a 1999 A6 (2.8L V6 C5 platform) and have been nothing but happy with the car. In fact, I'm thinking about trading in my newer Honda Pilot for an A6 Avant (for the family), so that I have two A6's in the garage. I am also a DIYer and so, having the same model (albeit different platforms - C5 vs. C6), is very appealing to me. I've got 145K miles on the car and outside of the routine maintenance (and a poorly designed water pump that has since been redesigned), I have not had to do too much to the car.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. In my opinion, if you're looking for a sports car, I would look at the Audi S6/S4 or the BMW. But if you're looking for luxury and ride comfort (not to mention reliability), I would go with the A6.

On a separate note, thanks for the post, because as I'm looking at the newer models, I was not aware of the VAG-COM requirements for the rear brakes. I have changed both the front and rear pads on my 1999, but it doesn't have an electronic parking brake...just one more toy I'll need to buy!

boss22 I am in CT and I have the latest VAG-COM as well as a Bentley for the C6 platform. If you decide to get an Audi I would be glad to help.

Hi guys. Appreciate for answers.

Gary A6: Tuesday is the auction day and I will go to the place where the car is store. I am taking with me an expert from car body repair- he doesn't like the bent on the front on aluminium beam right between bumper and radiator. We watched these pictures and he said if there is really bent on beam then the car is rubbish, cause all front geomtery may be changed, also as you said there may be smthg more like engine block damage, or suspenssion damage - we will see on tuesday.

Anyway I don't get the repair cost..? They say repair costs are 21K and I went through autotrader.com then I found some 2007 A6-es with about 55k miles on the clock, for $20K or $22K, This one i saw in the Audi dealer Hartford cost about $25K and the price was negotiable though. So I have no what price wouldd they sell this Audi on copart...? Depend howw many buyers going to be, and how much up this price will go. Thanks for Advice dude.

RMpk: Yeah, Acctually I don't look for sport car like S6, S6 are nice but to expensive for me now. I thinking about BMW cause I owned one and I was absolutely happy in its driving conditions. I had 5 series 1999 E-39 and was relaible as hell, I heard that newer ones like 2004 and up BMW E-60 s are less reliable then previous ones, having trouble with I drive which is hard to carry they say, and many problems with electronics, And X drive is notthat perfect like Quattro but BMs have better quality of steering tight then Audi I know that for sure, anyway either one got smthg I like and dislike - hard choice...

SchwarzS6: Cool, Where you about in CT? I am come from New Britain. If I buy one, I am asure I will contact You. Thanks.

There have also been tons and tons of problems with the twin turbocharged gasoline inline six in all models (NOT just the previous generation 5 Series) and with the normally aspirated gasoline V10 in the M5 and M6 as well. BMW-as well as BMW Motorcycles, Mini and possibly Rolls Royce absolutely has fallen very, very far from grace. No wonder there is a strong possibility that the German government will have to bail the BMW Group sometime from 2015 to 2020.

The BMW Group super desperately needs to clean up their act. As recently as 2002 (when the BMW Group started to fall from grace), I would have moved Heaven and Earth just to own a BMW. Now, I wouldn't be caught dead in one even if anybody gave it to me.

the thing that I noticed in the pictures was the engine looked like it was skewed. That could be the indicator of a bent beam that body shop guy was mentioning.

with the way the engine block looked (twisted and tilted up on the left side) it doesn't look like it'll be a 21k fix to me. And if you look at the coolent reservoir, all the engine coolant is gone meaning there's leak in the system (I could be wrong). Considering just for the exterior damage, right quarter panel, hood, front bumber, grill, left quarter panel, left/right driver side door (primed and painted) that's at least closed to 6~8k of repair. Then you get to the mechanical parts of the car.. I really don't think it's worth it. Besides, you can probably find a 06~07 A6 3.2/4.2 with 60k mile around $21~24K that you can drive off the lot with no repair worries right now anywayz. Why bother?

Oh and I forgot to mention, it'll be probably $800 each for the xenon headlights on the A6.. that's another $1600 (dealer quote), headlight washer assemblies, foglight assemblies, etc etc and the list goes on.....
