Car wont start - Stuck in "P"

Re: 2nd that, you or anyone else in your family had a new key programmed at the dealer recently?
The break lights work. There is no flashing yellow icon. It behaves as if there is no key. Also strange, when the key is inside the car, I can lock and unlock the car by remote. I think the car can detect the key is inside the car and disable the buttons?

I had the same issue a couple months ago...
Went out to run errends and the car just flat out didn't do anything as far as steering unlocking, but the radio and all electricals came on. The issue with mine was that a sensor in the steering column went bad and wasn't reading the code in the key. You may be having the same issue, or maybe that one key is deprogrammed...try using one of the spare keys. If that doesn't work, then most likely it's the same as my problem and you will need to have the entire steering column replaced.

Whoa. Way overkill on removing the screws.
When Audi says "little cover" they mean tiny. When you remove the ashtray, there is a very small cover about the size of a US dime in the side wall of the well opening you just exposed towards the shift **** that can be pried up with a fingernail (it is sort of funny shaped but it does pry up). Then you can access the rocker switch. Removing the screws is not required.
