Excellent piece of information OTL,
it's obvious many service shops don't know about "Front display control head adaptation" fix and I'm sure many are quite MMI illiterate other then pushing in the disks when there's an install problem/issue....any help with how we can reference this in the manual. web page, PDF, TSB etc would be more then helpful. Thanks

Update: I did find a reference TSB 2017424/3 regarding the control head adaptation.

I want to see a friend of mine who is an Audi/VW mechanic today.

He didn't have time to play around with me but he did give me his cable (Ross-Tech) and laptop. Took me w while to figure it out but I was able to fix it.

Once you're all connected with VCDS go into [07] - Control Head Front, and then click on Adaptation. Then select Channel 11.

According to the Ross-Tech the setting for Channel 11 are as follows:

Channel 011: Additional MMI Options
+00001 = Owners Manual available
+00004 = Frequency/Source Change via Function Button active
+00016 = Driver Information System (DIS) installed
+00032 = Climate Control Comfort available
+00064 = Auxiliary Heating available
+00256 = AUX-IN installed

The initial value in Channel 11 for me was 4, adding 32 makes the new value 36. Therefore I replaced 4 with the new value 36, clicked Test, then Save.

I then turned off the car, and started it again, but to my disappointment this still didn't bring back the Climate control settings. My buddy suggested I reset the MMI, which can be done my pressing SETUP, BIG **** and top right soft button together.

Once I reset the MMI the Climate control settings were back!!

In summary:
- Go to [07] - Control Head Front
- Go to Channel 11
- Add 32 to existing value
- Test and save
- Reset MMI by pressing SETUP, BIG **** and top right soft button together.

Thanks for posting. My display also went away when I did the MMI update. After I noticed this change, I thought it was just part of the update to remove the climate control display from the MMI screen. Will try this weekend.

Climate screen is now back. Followed the directions above except for one minor change. In reviewing the TSBs in the Bentley Repair Manual, I found that you can also reset the MMI while you are still in the Adaptation under the Engine Module. So, here are the directions with the other MMI reset option and some other added notes:

- Go to [07] - Control Head Front (in the Engine Module)
- Go to Channel 11
- Add +32 to existing value (VAG–COM provides a pop–up with the options)
- Test and save
- Reset MMI by:
a) Pressing SETUP, BIG **** and top right soft button together; or
b) Enter 111 to access Adaptation channel 111, enter 1, accept and save the value. Note: You'll see ERROR message in the field after you do this you save it, but you may ignore the message.

Any way to do this without the special connections? I'm 250 miles from an Audi dealer.

No, you need a VAG scan tool (i.e, VAG–COM, VAS 5052, etc.) to reset the the MMI so the climate control screen is shown.

lol. I wish mine would have the climate control temp would disappear. It is kind of redundant that the screen displays the temperature as well as the ventilation display when i adjust the diffusers.
