Default cloth wheel/fender liner -- both sides are torn after winter -- would this be covered under warranty

the front wheel/fender liner of my 4.2 on both sides was torn after this winter.

The dealer tech commented how Audi changed from plastic wheel/fender liners to cloth to reduce noise but many have been coming apart... would this be covered under warranty??

parts are close to $500 for the two front without labor.

it seems like a design flaw to me that should be covered under warranty... any thoughts

It might be. Try calling Audi customer care, and ask them
