I have been reading through the different threads on replacing the coolant temp sensor and am wondering if there is anything more difficult or unusual for a 2008 S6 as far as reaching it/having to remove other parts, etc. The dealer must think so since it quoted me $700! Any feedback on what the cost should be if I don't attempt myself?

Are you should there not quoting you to flush out the system, replace the water pump, thermostat and sensor?

I have done it on my s6 and it is really easy but!!! It is super hard to get at it. The sensor is between the firewall and the back of the motor and you can not reach it with ur hand. Make sure to get few extra locking "c" clip to hold the sensor cuz you will drop few and it will just sit on top of the tranny. Thank god thermostat is super ez to replace.
