Default Cracked Interior Door Trim A6

Wow, I just opened my door (Driver L Front) and saw this crack on the interior door trim and am at a loss to explain how it happened. (see attached images). Does anyone have a similar break and can share how they fixed it? Can someone ID which parts would need to be replaced? Thanks.

Mine is cracked at the exact same spot. My theory was that the door got closed on the seat belt buckle. I haven't done anything about it.

I suppose that is possible. Tho, my belt replaces nicely. Its the only explanation given the good condition of the rest of the panels. I fear this is going to be costly. Car is 2006.

My 05 had the same issue. I'm not sure what caused the cracks but I drove it for 9 years like that with no issues. Mine was black so it didn't stand out so much.

Mine too, from PO.
The biggest negative is the switch is loose in it's socket.

Audi replaced the door panel in my old 2005 under warranty for this issue, but that was a long time ago. It is a very well known issue with the original design. There is a TSB on the issue as well.

I've got the same crack. Caused by that button above the light skipping out and getting caught when the door is closed. Now I check to make sure that button is secured before closing.

Yes, I see your point about the button. I now believe this is what happened. It makes more sense in my case than the seatbelt because my belt returns completely to its start spot and is never dangling low enough to have been the cause. As I am new to Audi, I'm not sure what causes the button to 'skip' out and get caught when the door closes. Can you elaborate? I'd like to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks for the helpful info Kevin. RE: TSB are you referring to this one http://bit.ly/2x8hPD3 ? Can anyone recommend a good parts replacement shop (online) - I can replace this if I can find the part. Thanks.
