Default Dad's looking to buy an Avant A6 3.2... he's worried about gas milage... any feedback?

My dad was gonna buy a Touareg but since gas prices are through the roof, he's looking into Avants and specially A6.

However, the gas milage rating still is not that great on this car... knowing gas milage differs totally from posted, was wondering what's the REAL gas milage for A6 3.2?

Also, what to look for in buying used 2006/2007 A6?

Any feedback is appreciated!

Cheers

Default Quite happy

Wife gets 450 miles on a gas tank. I get about 380. Predominantly city driving. You do the math, I think the tank is 21 gallons

My S4 gets about 13 mpg in the same urban environment...

Default When we are moving the mileage is pretty good...

Sitting in traffic everything except a hybrid will get crappy mileage. I see a variance from about 30 MPG on long highway trips to about 18 in city traffic.

The Avant in general is about the best car I've ever owned, in the sense it is pretty good at everything. Enough space, very comfortable, handles very well, safe to drive and gets decent mileage.

Why own a touareg unless you are going to go offroad? I might be a bit biased against SUV's however.

If gas mileage is a priority, the A4 and even A3 is a better choice.

Well then it's either a big car with bad gas mileage or a small one with good mileage.

Default 19 to 20 mph local mixed. 27 mph highway (actual)

Does that work?

Default I don't believe so. You'll definitely want an FSI engine for the mileage

Mine is an 08 with 8K miles. Just recorded the highway mileage on a 1500 mile trip.
