Dealer is selling Tire/Rim insurance. Is it illegal to sell in NY?
A Sales person from another dealer told me that it is illegal to sell this in NY state. It cost a few hundred dollars and according to the dealer I may get my car from it covers wheels and tires from ANY road hazard damage. I opt for the 18" rims and figured i can use this in NY. Is it illegal to sell in NY? Thanks all.

When I picked up my new S-Line they tried to sell me a $550 policy that covered excess wear and tear
It covered wheels, tires, excess mileage up to 1,000 miles and body damage not covered by insurance. What do you guys think?

I bought it for the A6. It cost $495 for 36-month lease with zero deductible. However, excess mileage up to 1000 miles would be charged 5 cents per mile, which would bring the total cost to $545. Also bought the road hazard tire coverage for $299. With 17-inch wheels and NY potholes it will pay for itself with the first pothole encounter.

The tire and wheel insurance was a separate one. I could order it without the other. Since I bought my car in CT I figure they would honor it in CT.
The excess-wear insurance covers up to $2500 for whatever I would be charged for excess wear. It would not cover damage that a standard auto insurance would cover unless such damage would cost less than $500 to repair.

Re: Where do you claim? The dealer or private insurance?
For New York residents the wheel road hazard coverage is insured by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida. I figure this is done to conform to NYS regulations.
