Default Effect on mileage after muffler delete

I'm thinking about replacing the mufflers with magnaflow resonated tips #35174 on my 2006 A6 4.2.

While I don't worry about mileage, I'm wondering what effect its going to have on the mpg.

Any ideas anyone?

I did EXACTLY the same thing you are looking to do.

Take a look at my pics here: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...ighlight=raj99

I replaced with the same item (#35174) on my 06 4.2!

From a sound perspective...yes it IS louder. It sounds like a V8 should IMHO. It goes from not even being able to hear the engine and throttle, with the mufflers on the car. To one, where every time you rev the engine you will definitely hear it! On the freeway, it sounds stock, but in city traffic you hear it quite a bit more. I really like it, so do many of the folks I've had ride in it. However, the female population who has ridden in the car is bimodal...some like it, some don't.

As for mpg, well I'm getting about the same mileage. About 20mpg, on mostly city traffic (70% city/30% hwy)

That's awesome, love the grille!

Yea, I think the sound is just amazing, no drone and its kinda like the loud exhaust is on demand!

Thanks for your input raj99, I think I might get the same grille too!!

I put them on my wife's car also. I liked how they sounded on her 3.2l but she didn't like it so off they came. I have them for sale for $150.00 for the pair with long enough pipes welded to them to eliminate you muffler.

I live in MA I have a 3.2 would these fit, and how much are they typically to install. Very interested.

The person selling them had them ON his 3.2...so YES they will fit your 3.2.

The second question, how much to install. It should not cost more than $100. Since, the ones for sale have already been customized to fit. You will need to cut out the existing mufflers and then have the new tips welded into place. It's pretty easy to do, since you can drop the pipes quite a bit to gain 360 access to the weld joints.

Be prepared for the sound. I have no idea what they sound like on a 3.2, since mine are on my 4.2

I have those exact tips on my 4.2 as well and like Raj said, they make the V8 sound like a V8 should. I had it in the shop one day and one of the shop guys said he loved the sound and it reminded him of the sound of the R8. Some people have said it is too loud with the muffler delete but I disagree. As an enthusiast driver I LOVE the sound of a good engine with proper exhaust and the Audi V8 with these tips are a great fit! Anyone who loves cars will notice, and I have even had compliments from people who are not into cars that they love the sound.

These might be too big for the 3.2 and might not resonate properly. But that's just an educated guess, the best way to find out is either spend the $100, or try to find someone who's done it.

You could also consult the shop, they usually have smaller resonated tips in stock.

All the best!
