Is This A Fair Price?

Prices are very wild on 2006 4.2s
These are all recent auction sales of 2006 4.2's, but can not see options like s-line or othr things:
12K miles, mint, $26K
20K miles, average, $23.4K
21K miles, mint, $25.4K
28K miles, mint, $29K
29K miles, mint, $26.8K
29K miles, average, $21K (this was a score!)
32K miles, average, $23K
So the condition/options determine a lot in this case. If it's a mint, loaded, not paintwork car, they will have about $25K-$27K in it.
Then add $1600 for CPO. So their sunk cost is $26.6K to $27.6K. You should pay $1500-$2000 above that. You really should pay less, but for an Audi dealer to keep their lights on, that's what they need.
I can get you one, but the trade is not possible right now. What is the year, mileage, and condition for your trade? I can tell you what they should be offering for it.
Finally, the mint prices above are for MINT cars. That means no paintwork or bodywork. You have to verify that, otherwise it could be an average car and they might own it for much less.

Hey Bruce,
Thanks for the info. So, if the ten to 15 dealers I've been talking to are getting their cars at these prices then they are trying to kill buyers if they're selling them for $30K to $33.5K.
My trade is a 2008 VW R32 in gray on black leather. The car is the AWD Golf with DSG. The car has 18976 miles (it's 17 months old and is in mint condition). No dings, scratches and the interior is perfect as well. The 18" wheels have no marks or curb rash. I take amazing care of my cars and this is no exception. Here are a few pics:

Well, I would not say that exactly.
There are some cars that sold at $26K, $27K, and $29K. Once you add CPO and prep to those, asking $30K is not much profit for a franchised Audi dealer.
The "kill" comes in if they bought or took on trade an average car at $23K. Then $30K+ is a major hit.
Your car, mint, at auction is about $24K. Of course they have to pay the auction fee, detail it, transport it there, and they want to make some money on the trade too (no one likes working for free). What did they offer you?
I can get you a great A6 at a great price, but can't help with the trade. Sorry!

Hi all, I've found a 2006 4.2 silver on black with 22756 miles, clean CarFax and service history with no problems, only regular maintenance.
The car looks super clean inside and out and has the s-line sport pkg (sport springs and bumpers) and weather pkg.
They were asking $32965 and they'd only go down $700 but they are an Audi/VW dealer and they gave me another $500 on my 2008 R32 trade making it $23K which matches the highest trade from the dozen Audi dealers I've been talking to.
Do you think that is a decent price for this car? Personally, I'm thinking it's a little high.

I just got a call from a dealer in CT. He has a:
2006 3.2Q with 26.5K miles, Oyster Gray on Amaretto and has Premium, Tech and Weather Pkgs with 18" wheels. The car was purchased and serviced at this dealer and they just took it back on trade for a 2009 A6 3.0.
Both Carfax and service history are clean. They're asking $30.5 and offering me $23350 on my R32 which is the best yet. I'm going to go down on Sat to see the car and drive it. This price is much better especially with the good trade on my car. They sell Audi & VW and they wanted my car.
I'm going to push to get them to do the MMI Software update free and give me a Clear Bra at their cost. I'll keep you appraised.
