The version of s/w are you on now will be determinant on what course of action you take to update, but most likely all you'll need is the latest version which is the 46.1.0 CD set of 2.

I'm hoping to do the MMI update on my 2005 A6 and I've been trying to read up about it. I've heard about the bluetooth improvements but am wondering what is better. I haven't had any pairing or connectivity issues that I've noticed, but I haven't had the car that long yet.

Other huge bonuses are no more seatbelt light and no more stupid warning at start up.

Note: just remember to install CD2 twice in a roll, because otherwise the bluetooth won't work.
