Welcome to the forum and a simple SEARCH would have yielded the following which kelisko did a great job documenting:

I just got this answer from a different thread
" There is a reason Audi AG designed that screen in the air intake system. Can you drive w/o it? Sure, but why would you not want to ensure the the intake is operating as designed? Additionally, not having the screen in place with certainly cause the air filter to become dirtier sooner, which will require replacement. The P/N for this screen (called a "strainer") is 4F0-129-054-A, and sells for $20.46 at www.genuineaudiparts.com. "
here is the link to the other thread

Hope it helps.

I find this part for an A6 but not an S6. I looked for this screen on my S6 and it’s not there. Does anyone know if it is A6 only? The S6 has two air intakes and I don’t have one of these screens on either side.

Here is an example of the same part for an S4 http://www.ebay.ca/itm/AUDI-A4-S4-09...1YAO4u&vxp=mtr.
Hope this helps

My chassis is a Type 4F, most of the part numbers start with 4F0. I've looked on the common online parts sources like audiusaparts.com and in the exploded diagrams, the screen is not there. But I do see it for an A6. So I'm thinking maybe for the V10 they didn't use it.

It really does not seem to have one on either side.
I found a ton if very useful info on 7zap, when researching my motor mounts like I mentioned above.
Wonder why they did not put them on the V10 the S6 with 4.2 has one. Anyway, there you go.

Thanks - one less maintenance item I guess! No idea why they dropped it. My A8 has the 4.2L engine, but no snow screen.
7zap is great, I had not seen it before. Bookmarked now. Thx again

I just did my 135K service and I cleaned the snow screen. I also did it 22,547 miles ago, so here's if you're asking is it needed, here's what 22,547 miles has collected in it.
Since air from here goes to the air filter, then the engine, if this gets blocked then, less airflow to the engine. Took about 30 seconds to get to, 2 minutes to wash and 1 minutes to put back in.

Oh wow! Very dirty, is there any way you could show me how you get to the snow screen? I'm having trouble finding it. I know it's in the front left of the engine, but i don't know what i need to do to get to it. I have a 2009 audi a4 quattro. Thank you very much!
