Default Front-plate holder for 2005 A6

The 2005 A6 comes with two front panels. One is used if your state requires a front plate; it has a slight indentation. It looks like the front plate is apt to get mangled with such a setup, unlike with my 2001 A6 that has a substantial plastic plate holder.

Has anyone found an aftermarket plate holder for the front of a 2005 A6 that they like?

Default Re: Found solution, frame is for rear plate only

It bugged me the way the front license plate was mounted; it wasn't flush all around. Upon further examination I discovered that the indentation for the front plate would not accomodate the extra width of the dealer's frame placed around the plate. After removing the frame the front plate fits nice and snug into the indentation. The dealer's frame works well for the rear license plate. By the way I cannot take full credit for figuring this out. I only got the idea after noting that on the AudiUSA Web site they do sell license plate frames but note that it is for the rear plate only.

Default IMO the front plate holder works very well, both aesthetically and functionally. Not really sure...

...how you come to the front plate being more vulnerable on the C6 as compared with it mounted on the C5 A6. As noted below, the plate fits perfectly within the indented space, as long as you don't use the dealer's "name" frame. Just my 2-cents.

You are correct. As my subsequent message noted I only later on found the solution, the same as in your message. Next time I am at the dealer I'll let them know that their use of a front "name" frame should be avoided.
